The Further Education Workforce Census, what’s required and how can SAMpeople help?

Colleges use the Further Education Workforce Census which varies from a school submission. The collection for the 2021 to 2022 academic year will open on 12 September 2022 and will close on 25 November 2022. At first the submission was voluntary, however from September 2022 it is now mandatory. With the 2021-2022 submission there are a few changes to consider from the Department for Education and we have summarised these below:

  • They will collect a Sub Role under the existing Senior Leader, Manager, Teacher, Support and Administration Roles for each staff member,
  • There will be a new data item to collect information on whether the staff member had a pay rise during the academic year 2021-2022,
  • There will also be a new data item for information regarding if the staff member has benefitted from participating in DfE programmes during the academic year 2021-2022.

The data will be collected via the submit learner data service and will need to be uploaded as an XML file or be filled in online using an online form.

SAMpeople, a unique HRIS specifically build for the education sector, can help with completing the Further Education workforce census with its quick and easy data collection and report exports. SAMpeople provides a one-stop shop for people management in education by utilising cloud-based software, SAMpeople provides a singular source of information for education admin staff. This means there is one source of truth for all information, avoiding the dreaded overwritten spreadsheets, duplicate data, and lost files. This can be a lifesaver when needing to provide mandatory data to the government and local authorities as data can be exported in seconds to excel files for ease of distribution.

SAMpeople will hold all general data for every employee working in your college, making it quick and easy to pull the required data to complete the workforce census. Our Employee Information section provides a secure online personnel file to hold data such as pay information, working patterns and contracts.

There is an extensive reporting module within SAMpeople, meaning reports can be filtered to suit your requirements and downloaded as excel files for review and distribution. These exports can be tailored to suit the needs of individual colleges, as often the data required is different to schools.

If you are interested in getting set up on SAMpeople before next academic year’s collection, get in touch with our team to organise a demo, or join our next HR software webinar.

Additionally, SAMpeople will soon be launching an SCR module, see it in action here!
